Roger Ebert loved the trailer that we created for the Hawaii International Film Festival and has invited the trailer to open his own festival, the Roger Ebert Overlooked Film Festival. Someone told me that he yelled out after seeing the trailer in one of the screening, "That is the best trailer I have ever seen!" What an honor.

SAND ISLAND DRIVE INN ANTHEM won the Blockbuster Audience Award for Best Short Film at HIFF. The short was directed by Ryan Kawamoto and Executive Produced by James Sereno.

The IFP/Market is a place where filmmakers can showcase their projects, whether it is a short film, documentary, screenplay or feature film in progress. Over 1500 producers, distributors, productions companies, film financiers and agents visit the market in mid September looking for the next big film or filmmaker.

S.F. Asian American Film Festival has just completed their program and "Silent Years" is honored to be in a section entitled "Fishbowls and Silent Years". "Silent Years" will be playing three times during the festival including a screening in San Jose. Check the schedule here.

James Sereno wins the Hawaii International Film Festival's 2004 Hawaii Filmmaker Award for "Silent Years" in what was widely acknowledged to be the strongest year for local filmmaking in the Festival's 24-year history! As a result of the film's winning the award, "Silent Years" will be screened again at 8pm on the evening of October 31, 2004, at the Dole Cannery Signature Theaters. "Silent Years" took first runner-up honors at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA-LA) Awards for Short Film. The BAFTA Awards are the UK equivalent of the Oscars, and "Silent Years" was competing against more than 300 of the world's top short films.

"Silent Years" will be featured on the season premiere of "Hawaii's Reel Stories" on November 4, 2004, at 8:30pm on Oceanic Cable's OC16 channel. This episode will air an additional seven times throughout the subsequent week (for a complete list of airdates, please go here). "HRS" producer Don Brown interviewed "Silent Years" director James Sereno, cinematographer Paul Atkins, and editor Jay K. Evans as they provided a breakdown of a critical scene from the film. "Silent Years" will make its world premiere on August 10, 2004, at the Rhode Island International Film Festival in Newport, Rhode Island. In its eighth season, the festival will screen 265 independent films over six days. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has designated the RIIFF as a qualifying festival for the Short Films category of the annual Academy Awards.
